we are
meem collective
Meem Collective is a female-led company developing original music-driven theater projects, as well as creating music and sound design for narrative works across multiple mediums.
We're composers, sound designers, and storytellers who believe sound shapes how we experience art, space, and narrative. Our work spans from commissioned projects for cultural institutions to original artistic productions—each practice informing the other.
We partner with those who understand music and sound not just as decoration but as foundational creative forces. From concept through execution, we bring artistic depth and strategic thinking to every collaboration.
Meem is co-founded by Amal Bisharat and Bahar Royaee.
م
The letter Meem(م), shared by both Arabic and Persian alphabets, is shaped in the likeness of a cosmic vessel, carrying the mystery of the universe—its curved head and upright body enclosing secrets. Its soft “mm” sound, formed with closed lips––a gesture of silence, emotion, and the untold—yet sonically affirmed. In Sufi mysticism, the Companions of Meem (م) were seekers of hidden knowledge and esoteric truths. Meem(م) marks the path of inner transformation: the space between utterance and stillness, where meanings are felt beyond words. Like “Mime” in Western performance art, Meem(م) unfolds through what remains unspoken. And, echoing the modern notion of a “meme,” Meem is a transmitter of cultural memory—replicated, reimagined, and passed on.
